Leaked screenshots of Xubuntu Intrepid

Ogra wasn’t lying when he said Xubuntu is “*seeecret*”. Here are leaked (no, not really) screenshots of features that may or may not make it into the next release of Xubuntu Intrepid. Enjoy! ;]

This tag patch for thunar is a good thing, so is the search option. It might not be integrated in thunar itself but could be turned into a plugin for it.

  4. Vincent Says:

@Maximilian - the search/tagging thing is developed as a patch for Thunar, not as a plugin. It might be added as a compile time option though :)

The first screenshot looks very professional, nice clean layout. We need more of this, the other two need work and the ubuntu-look-alike should be avoided. This is a child distro, not a copy cat. Enjoy.

    Getting excited…

@Vincent As a patch we noticed that it will be difficult to get it into Thunar. The option to compile it as an option is good for us, but not to other users. That’s the reason I suggested it might be a good idea to turn that into a plugin, so one could package it and it would be easy for users to add that functionality afterwards.

What’s with those gradients? The same gradient is in the tracker’s search tool for gnome, and it looks horribly crappy on most gtk themes — I assume it looks crappy on any theme sufficiently different from what author used.

Aside from the looks, search is very important and integrating it with file manager might (or might not) make sense.

Obviously, as usual, thanks to everyone working on this, it’s great that something is happening and there are new things to try. Don’t feel discouraged with criticism! Is there any particular reason why this had to be a patch and not plugin? Missing API? Maybe a patch to the API and a plugin would make more sense?

A plugin would be nice indeed but I’m not sure if it’s possible. There original email is at http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.desktop.xfce.devel.version4/15444

The gradient is ugly indeed. There’s a screenshot that shows it without it, though, so I suppose it’s an option or part of a theme: http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/7773/screenshotthunar10jm8.png
